Habitat Thanks Demos’ Restaurant
For the seventh consecutive year Demos’ Restaurant has sponsored the Brooks Bucks fundraiser to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Wilson County. The ticket sales during the month of March raised $7500 to help cover a portion of the construction costs on Habitat’s 49th house in Wilson County, currently under construction on Mulberry St. in Lebanon. Jim Demos shared his belief in what Habitat is doing. “We want to support organizations that help others help themselves,” the restaurant owner stated. Tory Tredway, Executive Director, of Habitat for Humanity of Wilson County presented Jim Demos and his son Peter, owners of the award-winning Demos’ Restaurant, with an engraved glass house in recognition of their generosity and support during this year’s Brooks Bucks fundraiser. In addition to the fundraiser, Demos’ will donate the candy money collected at all five or their area restaurants-- totaling $9,045.00--to Wilson County’s Habitat affiliate. “We are honored to partner with the Demos family to work together to eliminate poverty housing in Wilson County. The funds raised by Demos’ will help us give deserving families in our community an opportunity to become homeowners”, said Tredway. “The sale of Brooks Bucks each March is a huge event in our community,” said Clark Boyd, current President of Habitat’s Board of Directors. He continued, “Individuals and business owners who purchase Brooks Bucks know they’re getting a good deal. They know what a great restaurant Demos’ is, and they want to help a worthy organization like Habitat.” The Bucks are redeemable at the Lebanon restaurant during April. Wilson Bank and Trust and the Lebanon Democrat are instrumental in the sale of the tickets also. “We appreciate what the employees of Wilson Bank and Trust and the Lebanon Democrat have done again this year to assist in the distribution of Brooks Bucks,” said Tredway. “We are thankful for the involvement of the bank and the newspaper in such an important fundraiser for Habitat,” he added. Brooks Bucks are named after the late Brooks Franklin, humanitarian and 30-year veteran writer for the Lebanon Democrat. Franklin was a nationally-recognized newsman, winning numerous national and state awards for reporting and editorial writing. The issue of poverty and homelessness in Lebanon led to the Brook Bucks fundraiser, which benefits one of Franklin’s most loved causes, Habitat for Humanity.
